A New Chapter
We all have many chapters of our lives. Some of my chapters have been as a child, teenager, adult, art school student, photographic equipment salesperson, photojournalist, portrait studio owner and now, landscape artist. I retired from work the end of 2021. Looking back, I have been involved with art most of my life. I dabbled with watercolors after high school and eventually found oil and acrylic paint, always working from my scenic photographs. My paintings tend to be solitary. I enjoy lighthouses, shacks, sheds and costal cottages. Lighthouses intrigue me due to their importance of keeping mariners safe from danger. They are tall, strong beacons of light. That’s one of the reasons they represent much of my work. I also seek solitude after being a portrait studio photographer for over 35 years. I loved working with people but now crave more quiet time. I create my paintings using palette knives and/or brushes, always trying to loosen my style which continues to be a work in progress and will probably always be so. I have been fortunate to have studied under Dan Hannagan, who I owe a debt of gratitude to, Linda Walker, Diana Lee, Pete Hocking and Mary Giammarino. Each has had an impact on my art.
